Petroleum Minister Lokpobiri, Kyari inspect ‘quick-fix’ works at Warri Refinery.

Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State , Petroleum Resources (Oil), visited the Warri Refinery and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC) in Delta state on Friday, September 29, to inspect on current “Quick-Fix Work” projects.

The minister attended the 13th Refineries’ Rehabilitation Steering Committee Meeting at the WRPC in company with Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari.

The development is related to the order President Bola Tinubu gave the government to fix the refineries.

In order to mitigate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies, Tinubu promised the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress that the refineries will be functional before December.

President Tinubu had promised to deliver the PH Refinery by December before working on other ailing refineries in Warri and Kaduna.

This was among the reasons why the labour called off the national protest which was held in early August 2023.

Dele Alake, The then presidential spokesman and now Minister of Solid Minerals had said,

“President Tinubu gave his commitment to the Labour leaders that the Port Harcourt refineries will begin production by December 2023 after the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation contract between NNPCL and Italian firm, Maire Tecnimont SPA.

“President Tinubu assured the Labour leaders that he would continue to work for the best interest of Nigeria while pleading with the Labour leaders to join hands with him to birth a better and economically buoyant nation.”
