PDP Sen. Jarigbe plans his defection strategy, a Bayelsa senator joins the APC.
Citing irreconcilable divisions inside his former party, Senator Benson Agadaga, who represents the Bayelsa East Senatorial District, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Change remains the only permanent thing in life,” Agadaga said in a letter to the Senate, which Senate President Godswill Akpabio read during Wednesday’s plenary. He claimed his decision was the result of “deep reflection and wide consultations” with his people and political partners.
According to a similar development, PDP members in the senatorial district of Cross River North have decided to join the APC in support of Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe.
Remember how Senator Jarigbe, a lawmaker from Cross River North, went to Aso Rock Villa on October 22, 2025, to formally notify President Bola Tinubu of his decision to switch to the ruling party?
In order to inform Alphonsus Eba, the APC state chairman in Cross River, of his defection and his willingness to collaborate with the leadership to reposition the party in the northern senatorial district, the senator then paid him a visit.
The time for him to alter his political path has arrived, according to Senator Agadaga, who represents Bayelsa East.
The Bayelsa legislator thanked God and his PDP supporters for the chance to serve in a letter read by Senator Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary.
“The kindness of the then People’s Democratic Party and the goodwill of many Nigerians is the reason I stand here today as a distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he continued.
He said that he was “eternally grateful” for the PDP’s contribution to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s ascent to the nation’s top job.
But the senator bemoaned the PDP’s current situation, calling it “a shadow of its former self” beset by internal conflict and division.

After giving it some thought, Agadaga clarified, he chose to join the APC, which he characterized as “a progressive platform committed to national unity and development.”
After extensive consultation, I have finally concluded that the path forward is progressivism, which entails thinking and acting in a progressive manner. As a result, I formally announce my departure from the disintegrating People’s Democratic Party and my switch to the All Progressives Congress, effective today, October 29, 2025,” he said.
As part of ongoing engagement, Senator Jarigbe called a strategic meeting with key PDP leaders from the zone in Abuja on Tuesday to assess the political climate and determine a new course, according to a statement released by his media assistant, John Agom Agom.
According to the statement: “Alignment with what participants described as the progressive direction of the state under Governor Bassey Otu and the reform-driven agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the main focus of discussions at the meeting held at the Rockview Hotel, Abuja on Tuesday.”
Senator Jarigbe told the PDP stakeholders at the meeting that he switched to the APC in order to help President Tinubu reposition the nation for greater success.
“My people should be reassured that switching to the ruling party won’t prevent me from strengthening my constituents, starting projects focused on helping people, and easing the zone’s suffering.
Additionally, I have to reassure all parties involved that we will continue to undertake regular consultations. “Better days are coming,” Jaribe said.
Venatius Ikem, the chairman of the Cross River state PDP, spoke and praised Senator Jarigbe for the courageous move thus far. He also pledged to return to the state executive members for additional discussions on the future course of action.
Austin Edibe, a former Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Godwin Offiono, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, and others attended the meeting.
