The Yobe State native Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, 17, won the title of World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, UK.
Nafisa, who represented Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), achieved a remarkable feat that has elevated Nigeria to a position of honor and catapulted her into the international academic spotlight by outperforming over 20,000 competitors from 69 countries.
Students from both English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries compete in the internationally renowned TeenEagle competition, which assesses communication, critical thinking, and English proficiency.
Hassan Salifu, the leader of Nafisa’s family, confirmed her victory in a statement, attributing it to “dedication, discipline, and the enabling support of the state government.”
According to Leadership, he stated, Without His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni’s visionary support for education, ‘our daughter’s worldwide success would not have been possible. His efforts have brought international honor to our state and nation.”
Additionally, he pointed out that Nafisa Aminu outperformed competitors from English-speaking nations, which is an impressive accomplishment that demonstrates her knowledge and readiness.
Celebrations in Yobe and beyond have been triggered by the triumph, and her family has expressed their sincere gratitude to Governor Buni and the NTIC teachers for helping to develop Nafisa’s potential.
“Nafisa’s success is a testament to the power of educational investment. Governor Buni’s commitment has not only transformed schools in the state but also positioned Yobe and Nigeria on the global stage,” the family added.
