Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State, was arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission agents on Monday in connection with the purported diversion of N1.3 trillion.

According to reports, the N1.3 trillion is the 13% derivation fund from the federation account from 2015 to 2023.

Okowa was at the EFCC office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he was later taken into custody by agents, according to commission sources.

The alleged misappropriation of funds by the previous governor to purchase property in Delta State’s Abuja and Asaba is also being investigated by investigators. He is being detained at the EFCC facility in Port Harcourt at the moment.

A representative for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest when reached but declined to say further.
