As the country’s crude oil production reached 1.8 million barrels per day (1.8m bpd), profits have been pouring in for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and a private security firm, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).

When the NNPCL board and management announced on Thursday, they also revealed that the company’s gas production had increased to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (7.4bscfd).

NNPCL and private security firms employed to protect the country’s financial resources, particularly Tantita, have been praised by stakeholders for accomplishing the goal.

Recently, Tantita has spearheaded an unrelenting campaign against the theft of crude oil and the damage of pipelines, chasing oil thieves away from the country’s coastal areas and destroying their equipment.

Following the assault and constant heat by Tantita security services agents stationed along the Niger Delta’s shore, it was learned that the majority of oil thieves had given up their illicit enterprise.

The most recent increase in the quantity of petroleum and gas resources produced was largely the result of these cooperative efforts with other state entities.

It was learned that, in coordination with other industry stakeholders, Tantita has started implementing strict measures to deter oil thieves to achieve a production target of 2 million barrels per day of crude oil by the end of December.

At a press briefing on Thursday, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL made the announcement, stating that the accomplishment was made in accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive.

The Production War Room Team, which served as the backbone of the production recovery operation, received congratulations from Kyari.

By the directives we have from the President, the Honourable Minister, and the Board, Kyari said, “The team has done a great job in driving this project of not just production recovery but also escalating production to expected levels that are in the short and long term acceptable to our shareholders.”

Mr. Lawal Musa, the Chief War Room Coordinator and Senior Business Adviser to the Group’s Chief Executive Officer, provided an overview of the Production War Room’s efforts. He stated that the Office of the National Security Adviser, government and private security agencies, and partners in the Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contracts worked together to accomplish the feat.

Every link in the production chain was affected by the measures that resulted in production recovery, he said, and security organizations kept a careful eye on the pipelines.

Production was at 1.430 Mbps on June 25, 2024, when the Production War Room team was officially launched, he said.

“We are optimistic that we can reach 2MBPD by the end of the year with this same momentum and the active cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly on the security front,” he continued.

Recall that during an award ceremony given to him by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), TSSNL Chairman Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, pledged to make sure that the country’s revenue continued to rise as a result of the daily output of crude oil production.

“The only place I have to call my country is Nigeria, so I will do everything within my power to see that crude oil production increases.”

Tompolo responded to yesterday’s accomplishment by saying he was thrilled to be a part of the success story.

Through Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, his Special Adviser for Media and Public Communication, Tompolo stated that Tantita was dedicated to achieving 2mbp by December as instructed by President Tinubu.

He said, “This milestone, as you know, was achieved in collaboration with NNPCL, security forces and of course, Tantita, which has been at the forefront of oil pipelines protection in the Niger Delta . We are determined to take it to 2mbpd before the year runs out as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

“All the needed machinery has been put in place to ensure that the target is achieved. No effort will be spared to ensure that the economy of Nigeria is galvanised.”

“This will lead to a boost in the government’s revenue, thereby making more funds available for the President and his team to run the country effectively.  I am assuring you that we are not going to rest on our oars until the target is achieved and even exceeded.”

“New technologies were being deployed to monitor the facilities to ensure that there won’t be any disruption and that the theft of Nigeria’s commonwealth is halted.”

“So the 1.8mbpd that it has got to, certainly by the end of the year, by God’s grace, we will work to get it to 2mbpd and even exceed. We are working towards that,”
