Delta University: Mulade Urges Governor Oborevwori to Appoint Ijaw Vice-Chancellor.

Highlighting concerns over representation and inclusivity, Chief Mulade Sheriff, PhD, a prominent Ijaw leader from Delta State, has called on Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to appoint an Ijaw individual as the next Vice-Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba.

Chief Mulade emphasized the absence of Ijaw representation in senior leadership roles within the state’s newer universities, despite the Ijaw community’s significant contributions to their establishment. He noted that no Ijaw has yet held a Vice-Chancellorship or principal officer position in these institutions.

As the Ibe-Sorimowei of the oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom and an activist, Mulade expressed confidence that appointing an Ijaw Vice-Chancellor would help redress this imbalance, fostering inclusivity and providing the Ijaw people with a greater sense of belonging within Delta State’s educational framework.

He stated, “Ijaws were integral members of the Management Council that facilitated the creation of these universities and contributed to the development of Southern Delta University. The Ijaw community boasts several highly qualified candidates—including professors with extensive academic and administrative experience, some of whom have served in the Delta State government—who embody integrity and professionalism.”

Chief Mulade concluded by urging the governor to recognize the Ijaw community’s economic contributions and longstanding exclusion from hosting state universities. “It is imperative that Governor Oborevwori appoint an Ijaw Vice-Chancellor to address the community’s perceived neglect and to promote equitable representation and inclusivity in university leadership,” he affirmed.
