Cash Transfer: 25m Nigerians have so far received ₦25,000 – Finance Minister

25 million Nigerians have already benefited from the ₦25,000 conditional cash transfer, according to a statement released Thursday by Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Shortly after the National Economic Council meeting, which was presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Edun made this announcement to State House Correspondents. He listed the measures that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has taken to alleviate the suffering caused by the government’s removal of subsidies and other policy reforms.
The direct distribution has helped five million households, he claimed.
Additionally, he said that over 11,000 recipients had received ₦3.5 billion from the consumer credit program in the past five days.
He added that half a million Nigerian students had now received more than ₦90 billion in student loan payments.
The government also disclosed that the recent flood that devastated majority of Nigeria’s states claimed the lives of at least 321 Nigerians.
Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the National Economic Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where this information was revealed.
The deaths were reported in all 34 of the federation’s states.
Professor Charles Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, told State House media following the meeting that the flood had destroyed over 1.2 million homes and damaged over a million more.
Farmlands were also washed away by the disasters, according to Soludo.
According to him, the NEC also conveyed its sorrow over the occurrence and called for action to lessen the pain of those impacted.
