Edun: Nigerian government gives vulnerable people N330 billion .

“National Social Register captures 19.7 million poor and vulnerable households representing over 70 million people.”
Poor and vulnerable Nigerians received N330 billion in cash transfers from the federal government through the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office.
Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, announced this at a Special Presidential Panel on Social Investment Programme meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
He claimed President Bola Tinubu’s involvement was part of his programs to help the poor and vulnerable cope with the price hikes caused by reforms.

“In the National Social Register are 19.7 million poor and vulnerable households with over 70 million people.
“Cash payments from the 800 million World Bank facility went to 15 million people.
“8.5 million households have received at least one N25,000 payment, and some have received two or three.
He claimed “The remaining seven million households will be paid before the end of the year”.
The minister said the program is robust and sustainable, with beneficiaries confirmed by NIN and payments issued digitally via bank accounts or mobile wallets.
To ensure sustainability, Mr. Edun said the initiative would be included in the annual federal budget.
He stated, “We now have the basis for a modern social protection system that can provide targeted assistance to the poorest and most vulnerable on a long-term basis.”
NASSCO National Coordinator Funmi Olotu said the staggered payments were due to the president’s insistence on tying disbursements through NIN for transparency.
“No cash payments anymore. All transfers debit bank accounts directly.
“That is why some households have received one, two, or three tranches,” she stated.
Ms. Olotu said the former administration planned to pay N5,000 monthly for six months, but the new administration changed it to N25,000 for three months.
