APC expects more governor defections—Yilwatda

To assist President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda said more governors will leave their party and join the APC before the 2027 general elections.

On Tuesday, Yilwatda, represented by Deputy National Chairman (South) Chief Emma Eneukwu, addressed at the Bayelsa State chapter’s 12th Expanded Stakeholders’ Meeting in Yenagoa, when the APC formally approved Tinubu as its single 2027 presidential candidate.

He claimed Tinubu’s governing style and performance continued to attract opposition defections, and more senators and House members were joining the ruling party.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno moved to the APC to support the President’s re-election.

“Our doors are still open,” Yilwatda remarked. Because of the caliber, ethics, and production of our president, more governors, senators, and House members are joining our party. Lions ignore small animals when working, even if opponents bark.

This is what President Tinubu is doing—focused leadership that works.”

He praised South-South governors for their “realism and political maturity” in joining the APC, saying their defection showed faith in Tinubu.

“After seeing Mr. President, they left their political parties to join our great party to advance Nigeria. South-South and South-East politicians desire a greater Nigeria and are making the same choice. “They are leaving their parties to support Mr. President in 2027 and ensure an overwhelming victory,” Yilwatda said.

The APC leader praised Tinubu for taking on issues others lacked the political guts to implement.

“This president is fearless. He takes charge. He has accomplished what others could not. President Tinubu is moving to elevate Nigeria, he remarked.
