Ijaw and Urhobo boycott CVR and demand the Supreme Court’s Warri Constituency Delineation Decision.

Ijaw and Urhobo ethnic groups in Warri Federal Constituency have threatened to boycott the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise unless INEC implements the final report of the Supreme Court-ordered fresh delineation of electoral wards and units.
Many demonstrators from Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West LGAs in the Federal constituency attacked INEC headquarters.
On Tuesday, the groups peacefully protested at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, expressing concern about the CVR.
They held signs reading “Warri Federal Constituency: No Ward, No Units for CVR,” “CVR Today is Political Fraud in Warri Federal Constituency,” and “INEC, Give Us the Final Report.”
Chief David Reje of the Egbema Clan of Warri North Local Government Areas, the organizations’ spokesman, accused INEC of subverting public constitutional rights by conducting the CVR with the “defunct arrangement” the Supreme Court had annulled.
Chief Reje expressed displeasure that INEC has neglected to release and execute the final report notwithstanding its field exercise and stakeholder interactions, which produced a new demarcation report in compliance with the apex court order.
“Our forbearance and cooperation are being taken for assumed as machinery is in place to exclude us from future elections.
“We cannot tolerate the erosion of our constitutional and Supreme Court-affirmed democratic rights,” Chief Reje said.
The parties traveled from Warri to Abuja to attract INEC’s attention to their suffering and warned that they may be forced to occupy the commission’s premises until their demands were granted.
They called it the second phase of their “non-violent struggle to restore political dignity.”
They added that they were under “consistent pressure” from their people and could not guarantee that the agitation would be subdued if INEC ignored the court ruling.
They asked that INEC produce and apply the delineation report immediately and that the CVR only proceed with the newly approved electoral arrangements.

INEC National Commissioner Abdullahi Abdulzuru informed Warri Federal Constituency’s Ijaw and Urhobo groups that the Supreme Court-ordered electoral wards and units limitation will be handled.
He thanked the groups for peacefully expressing their concerns and noted their formal petition.

He added that INEC adheres to the law and does not disenfranchise any Nigerian group.
We enforce the law as a commission. INEC do not intend to disenfranchise anyone. He guaranteed you we would respond.
Dr. Joel Bisina, Olorogun Victor Okumagba, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, Chief John Eramvor, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Chief Sylvester Femi Okumagba, Chief Arthur Akpodubakaye, Chief Wilson Ogbodu, Chief Emmanuel Serondi, and Chief Mrs. Ann Gagiyovwi signed the protesters’ document.
