Buba Galadima: Why INEC is unable to hold free and fair elections under Tinubu
By: O V L N e w s
Buba Galadima, achieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has argued that President Bola Tinubu’s administration prevents the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from holding free and fair elections.
Just two years after taking office, Galadima charged that the present administration had abandoned governance in favor of political maneuvering.
When answering questions on Channels TV’s Politics Today program on Monday, the NNPP chairman made this statement.
Galadima claimed that because those in power had already begun politicking before others, INEC lacked the “muscle and the guts” to call politicians to order.
“See, look at it,” he added, “when politicians begin to agitate the political climate, they come out and warn them that they have not permitted politicking.”
“Could things have gone worse? Only two years into this administration’s existence, what is happening is the politicking that is currently taking on. Because those in government initiated it, INEC lacks the strength and courage to call politicians to account, therefore just look at the politicking that is taking place. Under these circumstances, how can you expect a free and fair election?
“Well, how do you think they will have the stamina to have a free and fair election if they can’t stop politicians from getting caught in the act or acting rashly?
In your opinion, if they simply cannot say, “Look, mister man, stop,” then it’s time for government rather than politics.
“That is why some of us are keeping quiet. We are waiting for the daytime, and when we start, the world will know that we are here.”
