Citing ineptitude and suspected ethnic bias, The apex Ijaw media council, the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF), the highest Ijaw media council, has supported Niger Delta stakeholders’ demand that Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), be fired for his subpar work and abuse of authority.
Its national president, Comrade Ozobo Austin, Comrade Kagbala Ezekiel, Spoksman, and secretary, Comrade Tare Magei, signed a statement on Friday that included this information.
The group claims that instead of advancing President Bola Tinubu’s reinvigorated program, the Executive Secretary has been using his position to further an Itsekiri agenda.
According to the Ijaw apex media group, Ogbe was one of the individuals causing the new issue in Warri by giving his office to Olu of the Warri private corporation, where only the Itsekiris were being involved and given authority.
In addition to failing to successfully promote Nigerian content in the oil and gas industry, the IPF claims that the Executive Secretary has shown incompetence in his position and has been using his position to further the interests of the Itsekiri people rather than Nigeria and its citizens.
In order to reestablish trust in the NCDMB and guarantee that the body could successfully promote Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector, the IPF had urged President Bola Tinubu to remove the Executive Secretary from office.
In order to make sure that public officials act in the nation’s and its citizens’ best interests rather than furthering their own or their ethnic groups’ agendas, the IPF encouraged President Bola Tinubu to establish a system to oversee the Nigeria Content Development Board.
The media leaders emphasized that Agbe has failed by refusing to engage and build capacity among Ijaw and Urhobo, two crucial stakeholders of the oil producing communities. They said that the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) was created to maximize Nigerians’ participation in oil and gas activities, integrate oil-producing communities into the value chain, foster institutional collaboration, build local capacity, and link the oil and gas sector to other sectors of the economy.
Instead of fulfilling his mandate to maximize the use of Nigerian resources (goods, services, and assets), attract investment, and support local manufacturing and service provision, they argued that Ogbe was now using government funds to create ethnic militia groups in Delta State that targeted Ijaw and Urhobo people.
Because Ogbe had neglected his responsibility to monitor and assess operators’ and service providers’ performance in order to ensure compliance with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, the group emphasized that Ogbe’s actions now posed multiple threats to the peace in the Niger Delta.
If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dismisses their demand for Ogbe’s dismissal with indifference, the Ijaw Media Council threatens to hold a mother of all protests to close the Bayelsa local content head office and remove him from office.
