Army tells Asari Dokubo: You are not capable of downing military aircraft
The Defense Headquarters has reacted to a widely shared video in which Asari Dokubo, an ex-military man from the Niger Delta, asserts that he has the ability to knock down a military plane that is purportedly hovering above his residence during the recent local government elections in Rivers State. Insinuating that he was being intimidated by the planes because he supported the elections, Dokubo said, “The federal government knows that I have the capacity to bring down any aircraft.”
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, responded by calling Dokubo’s assertion “laughable” and saying that Dokubo was just “blabbing” and that he didn’t have the power to oppose the military or down its planes.
Buba underlined the military’s commitment to professional standards within the confines of democracy and mentioned that several security services use airplanes and helicopters for national security missions. He added that such remarks should be addressed by the appropriate authorities.
Buba emphasized that the military is not in charge of the Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRRR) program in response to unconnected allegations of 13 absolved Boko Haram terrorists making their way out of a rehabilitation camp armed with firearms. He gave his word that efforts are being made to keep the program running smoothly.
