The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, South-South, Gift Johnbull, along with one ‘General MightyMan’ in Yenagoa, hosted a “dialogue between stakeholders and former agitators of the Niger Delta” on Tuesday. The Presidential Amnesty Programme has clarified that it was not a part of this dialogue.

This clarification was issued by the PAP Office on Thursday through a press release signed by Mr. Igoniko Oduma, the PAP Administrator’s Special Assistant on Media, Dr. Dennis Otuaro.

According to the statement, the explanation was required because of the unfavorable association that some people have made between the PAP Office and the Yenagoa Dialogue, as well as the continuous deception committed by some individuals who take money from ignorant individuals by posing as the Office and promising them benefits like empowerment and vocational training.

The letter added that recipients of the office’s post-training, educational scholarship, and vocational programs pay nothing in exchange for their benefits.

According to the report, the PAP leader warned all representatives of Phase One, Two, Three, and additional recipients about the ongoing fraud and urged them to stop providing funds in exchange for purported favors from the presidential amnesty office.

In order to dissuade others from utilizing the office name for scams, Otuaro once more urged security agencies to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.

The statement read, “The attention of the Presidential Amnesty Programme has been drawn to an event that was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on 8 October 2024, which centered on “dialogue between stakeholders and former agitators of the Niger Delta”.

“The PAP Office wishes to clarify that it was not a party to the event, which was hosted by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, South-South, Gift Johnbull, in collaboration with one ‘General MightMan’.

“This clarification becomes necessary due to the misconception in some quarters that the PAP office was involved in the event.

“We are concerned that based on the event, some persons are impersonating the PAP Office and collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public with a fake promise they will be engaged in vocational skills training and other empowerment opportunities in return.

“PAP delegates of Phases One, Two, and Three, together with beneficiaries, are advised by PAP Administrator Dr. Dennis Otuaro to abstain from any activities that have not been formally approved by the Office for their benefit.

Potential recipients are not required to pay the PAP Office any money to participate in its post-training, educational, and vocational scholarship programs.

“The Administrator is calling on law enforcement to find and prosecute individuals who are perpetrating fraud using the PAP Office’s name. The PAP office ought to be excluded from these pay-for-engagement initiatives by the general population.
