Breaking: FG, Labor will discuss minimum wage and strike tomorrow 4th June 2024.
The tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage has been called to a meeting by the Federal Government through the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, or NSIWC, for tomorrow, June 4.
On May 31, the committee’s final meeting came to an unexpected conclusion. Following the government’s and organized private sector’s unwillingness to accept an offer from OPS that was more than N60,000, the Organised Labour negotiation team withdrew.
Ogulagha Vanguards Ltd. has determined that the meeting on June 4, 2024, will begin at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
The level of cooperation and involvement by workers on the first day of the indefinite nationwide strike, according to insiders, has frightened the authorities.

In the meantime, the unions carried out the strike directive by closing down the nation’s electrical sector.
The power industry has been shut down, according to Dominic Igwebike, acting general secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, or NUEE, who spoke with Vanguard.
Additionally, NUPENG, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, has suspended all loading operations at fuel depots in Lagos.
However, Vanguard was informed that all loaded trucks were allowed to leave the depots, including aviation terminals, for safety purposes.
According to a labour leader, “We don’t want to keep a loaded truck within the depot because it is highly flammable.”
Likewise, port activities throughout Nigeria have been suspended by the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, or MWUN.
An official of the Union told Vanguard that besides Lagos ports, all other port formations in Port Harcourt, Warri, Onne, Calabar, and others have been closed.
The official stated that they would stay closed until further notice from the national organized labor leadership.
The FCT and other regions of the nation are experiencing the same situation.
