WAEC requests consideration ofcandidates in light of the NLC and TUC strikes.
As it prepares for an indefinite strike, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has made a plea to organized labor to take into account pupils taking the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.
Dr. Amos Dangut, the head of WAEC’s national office, made the request on Sunday in a Lagos interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)…
He stated that the worries of organized labor and all Nigerian workers were shared by the council.
He claims that the majority of WAEC’s workers in Nigeria are members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) or the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), both of which have called for the strike that is set to begin on Monday.
The notification that the NLC and TUC will be going on an indefinite strike starting on Monday, June 3, has been brought to the attention of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC)
Since most of its Nigerian employees are members of both unions, WAEC shares the concerns of the majority of Nigerian workers.
It is also important to note that WAEC and the unions have consistently worked together to successfully carry out the organization’s mission over the years.
Based on this understanding, we would like to kindly remind the unions that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2024, is still being administered.
The examination is expected to conclude on June 24. It began on April 30 in Nigeria and other WAEC members, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
According to the head of WAEC, “the conduct of such papers as Physics, Economics, Government, and Civic Education across the federation and some West African countries is scheduled for the week of June 3 to June 7.
“Any disruption in the preparations and procedures for the administration of the test, in his opinion, will put candidates at a significant disadvantage in their academic endeavors.
In order to enable the ongoing, orderly, and peaceful conduct of the examination as planned, we hereby call on all interested parties including the unions to collaborate with the council as always.
“Within the council’s mandate, we remain dedicated to excellence and serving the Nigerian people,” he declared. (NAN)
