Minimum Wage: FG alerts NLC and TUC that your planned action is illegal and premature.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have received a warning from the federal government to postpone their plans to launch a statewide indefinite strike action starting tomorrow (Monday).
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, released a statement on behalf of the Federation on Sunday, describing the planned industrial action as “premature, ineffectual, and illegal.”
It emphasized that efforts to raise the minimum wage for workers in the nation are presently underway, and it insisted that labor unions had not met the requirements in order to be eligible to go on strike.
In a letter to the two labor unions, the AGF stated that negotiations had not been called off by FG or any other parties involved in the Tripartite Committee on setting a new national minimum wage.
urthermore, the AGF pointed out that a ruling from the National Industrial Court, NIC, prohibiting the two labor unions from engaging in strike action of any kind remains in effect because it hasn’t been overturned.
As a result, he pleaded with the unions to reevaluate their planned strike and go back to the bargaining table.
