One year anniversary of Oborevwori: speaker from Delta worried about worker strike
Concerns have persisted among state officials regarding the industrial action that the Delta State House of Assembly workers initiated on the day that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori celebrated one year in office.
Emomotimi Guwor, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, is one such figure.

He claimed that what was even more concerning was that the workers decided to start the strike during the break of Governor Oborevwori’s first year in office, at a time when Deltans were rejoiced over God’s favor upon the state and the accomplishments of the governor in a short period of time.
Guwor voiced concerns that some media outlets took advantage of the regrettable circumstances to mislead the public in a statement released by his principal press secretary, Nkem Nwaeke.
He stated that the matter in question was unrelated to unpaid salaries and that the state government was paying salaries on time to all of its staff members in all branches of government.
According to him, the primary cause of the unrest is the Consolidated Legislative wage Scheme (CONLESS) that was implemented in Delta State and focused on providing workers with a higher wage structure.
According to him, the issue is a national one, and state implementation of it has evolved to a point.
“A high-powered committee was set up by the state governor to work out modalities for the implementation of CONLESS in the State.
Members of the committee include the state head of service, accountant general of the state, private secretary to the governor (PSG), acting clerk of the House, chairman of the state PASAN chapter, state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and others. The committee is chaired by the secretary to the state government (SSG).
“The committee has been working assiduously to ensure that its recommendations meet the standard and expectations of all stakeholders,” Guwor said.
While acknowledging the workers’ right to protest for a better pay package, the speaker recommended that they keep looking for nonviolent ways to accomplish their goals.
He stated that he had a fruitful meeting with the PASAN leadership earlier in the day and that he had pleaded with them to end the strike so that the government-appointed committee on the matter could finish its work.
In addition to expressing gratitude to Deltans and other interested parties for their concerns, the Speaker promised that the matter will be rectified as quickly as feasible.
