Tinubu breaks Obasanjo’s record in Nigeria’s New National Anthem (Full Lyrics).
The National Assembly met in joint session on Tuesday, during which President Bola Tinubu said that the current national anthem will be banned and replaced with the previous one
The new anthem, which was first adopted in 1960 but later outlawed by the Olusegun Obasanjo military administration in 1978, was sung by lawmakers after the president certified “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” as the “latest national anthem” upon arriving at the joint session.
Nigeria’s new National Anthem.
Nigeria we hail thee
Our own dear native land
Though tribes and tongue may differ
In brotherhood we stand
Nigerians all, are proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign
In peace or battle honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
O God of all creation
Grant this our one request.
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria shall be blessed.
