Nigeria Labour Congress COMMENDS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT On POVERTY ALLEVIATION SCHEMES.
From next month the Federal Government will begin payment of a 25,000 naira grant to some members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners captured in the expanded National Social Register of the conditional cash transfer scheme.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu announced this in Abuja at a meeting with leaders of the Nigerian Labor Congress.
The payment of 25,000 naira to 15 million households is one of the measures rolled out by the Federal Government to reduce the impact of petrol subsidy removal on Nigerians, especially vulnerable persons.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu explained that the decision to capture vulnerable pensioners in the conditional cash transfer scheme was informed by President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to their welfare.
She appealed to the Nigerian Labour Congress to help fast-track the process of collating data on vulnerable pensioners.
The NLC President Joe Ajaero commended the various poverty alleviation schemes rolled out by the Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Ministry and the passion and commitment of the Minister to drive President Tinubu’s agenda.
Also speaking president of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Godwin Abumisi appreciated President Tinubu and the minister for the gesture.
The removal of petrol subsidy has since been taking a toll on Nigerians and the Federal government responded with a number of measures to lessen the burden.
