Niger: Panic as military Junta gives fresh ‘terrifying’ order
The military junta in power in Niger has issued arrest warrants for 25 former leaders.
The people include former Prime Minister Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou and former Foreign Minister Massoudou Hassoumi.
Also on the list are former Trade Minister Alkache Alhada and former presidential staff deputy Daouda Djibo Takoubakoye.
Former Ambassador to France, Aichatou Kané Boulama, is also mentioned.
In addition, accusations have been filed against former Tuareg rebel leader Rhissa Ag Boula and former Energy Minister Ibrahim Yacoubou.
The military junta claimed that all of them are accused of high treason and conspiracy as a result of their actions to undermine state security.
Despite the fact that many people have fled the country, some still attempt to overthrow the government from abroad.
Note that on July 26, political unrest in Niger escalated. Action was taken by the National Council for Safeguarding the Homeland, which was headed by General Abdourahamane Tiani.
They suspended the constitution in addition to ousting President Mohamed Bazoum, which provoked the international outcry.
The act was strongly condemned by the regional organization ECOWAS. It imposed Niger under trade and economic restrictions and advocated the use of military to reestablish order.
