Governor Oborevwori approves 25% reduction in acceptance fees for new students
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has granted a reduction of 25% in the acceptance fees payable at the four state-owned universities As a palliative for students.
On Wednesday in Asaba, Festus Ahon, the governor’s top press secretary, issued a statement that also included the governor’s approval.
The statement states that the reduction in the acceptance fee was consistent with measures taken by the Delta State government to lessen the effect on citizens of the removal of fuel subsidy.
Ahon added that new students at the state-owned Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, University of Delta, Agbor, and Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba were qualified for the 25 percent reduction.
The governor had earlier approved the payment of N10,000 to workers for three months and N5.522 billion to 50,196 workers as promotion arrears as palliatives to civil servants all over the state.
In addition, the governor has approved a rotating schedule for working days for civil servants on salary Grade Level 1-14, while staff on Grade Level 15 and above are to figure out what is convenient for them in their respective MDAs, ensuring that essential services continue uninterrupted.
2,000 primary school teaching and non-teaching staff are also being recruited in 22 out of the 25 local government areas in the state.
The governor’s spokesman went on to say that the state government has set aside N10 billion, in addition to over 17,000 bags of rice and 64,000 bags of maize, all in 50kg bags, as palliatives for society’s less privileged, poor, people with disabilities, and the elderly. He stated that all of these measures were aimed at mitigating the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on the citizens of the state.
